I’m still behind on taking my weights, measurements, and photos for the 75 Soft challenge. I’m extremely unmotivated to exercise and I’m so tired that the eating portion is NOT going as well as I had hoped. I think part of it is due to the weather, but there has to be some kind of underlying problem with my motivation, especially the food portion is something I can absolutely control better than the weather. I’ve been doing pretty good at drinking water and let me tell you how I’m killing it on the reading books portion. LOL! Anyway, I finished two books today. One was finished around 1 am and the other was finished around noon. I managed to fully complete my cross-stitch bookshelf, which was a HUGE accomplishment, especially considering that I had 77 books on the shelf and had to add 3 to the side free hand, because there weren’t enough books for the amount I read for the year. I was motivated to do more after that, but did not make it a priority to work on the Christmas cards, however, I did work on moving photos from my google drive to my external hard drive to free up space. It was hard looking at photos of my boys when they were so little and seeing how much they’ve both grown. I wish I could remember more about their younger years. I feel like a terrible mother that I don’t remember a lot of things are likely very meaningful to my kids.
Okay, now that today’s existential crisis is over, I’ll share what the oldest and I did tonight (since his brother is still with their dad). We watched a movie called The Big Year with Jack Black, Steve Martin, and Owen Wilson. It was surprisingly enjoyable and wholesome. I highly recommend it if you want a movie that has zero sex, laughs, and positive relationships.

Today was not a day I’d like to commemorate. I am disgusted at this country and how the needs and wants of so many have been blindly sacrificed for the few. And on the day we celebrate Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. I posted my blog for last week and one thing for MLK day, because I avoided a lot of the talk online. I deleted ‘friends’ on social media that mock those who don’t support their candidate, and that I honestly don’t really talk to. I added them when I was at a different point in my life and I’m trying to do a better job of standing up for myself and what I believe in. It’s hard to do that due to the way I was raised, but I’m working on it.
I decided to work on my Christmas card goal for the quarter, since I’ve not even touched them yet. I cut out pieces to create the trees on the Christmas cards while listening to an audiobook. I probably could have created a few cards, but I need to find a new paint brush to use for the glue to attach the decorations to the cards. Overall, it felt pretty productive and I managed to work on it for about 2 hours while my laundry was going. Two birds, one stone!

Another day off of work! I was supposed to return to work today, but my best friend and I took the day off to attend a release event for the book Onyx Storm in a town that’s a halfway point between our two homes. We met up at 8:00 am (or so) and spent all day doing stuff together. We went window shopping, actual shopping, and had a delicious meal at a hole-in-the-wall Thai place. The food was delicious and kept us full for hours! I ordered a hot tea, not realizing it would be a green tea, but it complimented the meal so well, I didn’t even mind.
School had a late start, so instead of asking my kids to walk to school (the big one would only walk part of the way to ensure the younger one makes it across the major streets) in the sub zero temperatures, I just told school that the little one wouldn’t be there at all. So, they hung out together all day. While I was out with my best friend, we stopped at Target and wandered down the Lego aisle. I happened to see one of the sets that my oldest son wanted SO bad. I called him and asked if he wanted me to bring him and his brother to town so they could use their Christmas gift cards from family to get the Lego set. I barely got the question out and he said “Yes” in his deadpan voice (which I know means he’s actually very excited). So, after I got home, we went BACK to town and he purchased his Lego set, which he proceeded to build that night. My little one bought 5 smaller sets and built one before bed.

A day back at work, which means a lot of catch-up, but it wasn’t terrible. Tonight the little one and I have an obligation at his school that we agreed to attend. Thankfully I received a text saying that it was a come and go event so there are no presentations that we have to sit through. It’s listed as a macaroni bar, which doesn’t really thrill me, but the little guy wants to go so we shall go.

The macaroni bar wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. There were small chunks of fried chicken available to eat also. So, we had mac and cheese with some fried chicken.
Today is my first night of the week where I don’t have anything scheduled. I was on the fence about making some pies for the upcoming Band Pie Auction, but I honestly just want to relax. The little one was asked to help a local librarian build a Lego set that she was gifted. She tried to build it, but got very frustrated when she was working on it. She knows how much he loves Lego so she asked him to help. I met him at the library after school and we spent about two hours building the set. I thought it would take like 30 minutes, but I was wrong. LOL!
Due to the time it took to build the set, I made the decision to take the boys to a new restaurant. The food was good but a lot more expensive than I thought it would be so I guess it’s a good thing I’m getting paid for some pies next week. Also, the portions were large enough that we all have leftovers for lunch tomorrow.
January 24
This morning started out rough, but it’ll be okay. The little one missed the school bus from the high school to his school, which meant I had to run him across town to school. Today I have a handful of students that are taking a specific test which requires user names and passwords that are provided by the teacher. Thankfully that teacher left the information with me, which I needed to give to the students before they could begin the test. Being late back to work from dropping off the little one could have made me super frustrated and snippy with a lot of things at work. Thankfully, I was able to tell the little one to not let missing the bus define his day and to make the best out of the rest of the day. I took my own advice. When I got back to work I gave the information to the students and they all worked hard on their tests. The rest of the day went well and I got a lot of steps in between fixing some small issues and making it a point to walk a few laps.
After work, I was driving to pick up the little one from school and realized that I left some of the needed items for the pie auction at work, which meant I’d need to leave the house sooner than I thought so I could pick up the forgotten items. After grabbing those things, I grabbed some dinner and went to the middle school to set up the technology for the auction. I thought I was going to be doing a specific job that I did last year, but thankfully I was there only to monitor the technology. Thank goodness! It was such a relief to only focus on that one aspect of the auction. The technology decided to work great all night so it was super easy! After packing everything up, I went home, chatted with the kids for a bit then passed out. I was one tired girl. It’s been a long week.
January 25:
I managed to sleep in some this morning. Yay! I have big plans to have the boys help me clean the house today. We have three rooms to focus on today and there are three of us, so those odds look good. I wrote check lists for all three rooms, each with the same number of items on them so we all had the same amount of work to do. The little one and I tackled the living room and bathroom together. The oldest took the kitchen. We put on some music and got to work. I tend to relax more in the house when it’s clean and it’s been a mess for a while. So, we cleaned windows, dusted, vacuumed, and just did so many things that help me be more comfortable at home. I hope we can continue to do this on a weekly basis so that it goes faster and we can keep a form of order. In addition to that, it’ll be good to get in the habit so when we do spring cleaning, it won’t be so overwhelming.
After finishing everything but one item on the list, the little one and I built some wooden vehicle puzzles that he was gifted for Christmas and ended the evening watching Paddington. It was a good day.
