As I finished my audiobook last night, I figured I should probably do some heavy lifting/reading on the Kindle library book I have. It’s due in like 8 days and I should probably finish it before it’s due. So, this morning I curled up on the couch with my tea and Kindle. I managed to read about 30% of the book before the kids woke up. Both of them were up pretty late last night, so I got a lot of peace and quiet. It was wonderful.
The little one got up and completed his morning chore of feeding the cats. Boy, were they hungry by the time he fed them. LOL! The oldest got up while the little one was in the shower and they goofed off a little before the oldest left to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The little one and I ended up going for a 1.22 mile walk this afternoon, then we came home to eat a little bit. Once we were ready to go, we then went to the local park so he could play with some of his toys outside and hoped that there would be other little ones around. He lucked out and found two little boys that wanted nothing more than to play tag. I sat in my car and read more of my book, which was nice. He had a great time and I got some quality reading done.
I stepped on the scale today and I’m disheartened again on my weight. I know that part of it is bloating and it will be better in a couple of days. However, I know that I’ve done barely anything to take care of myself thus far this quarter. I need to do better at moving my body and drinking a lot more water. When we went shopping this weekend, I picked up some healthy food options so I look forward to packing some better lunches and preparing some better dinners this week. I’m also very thankful that this week is not nearly as busy as last week.
March 3:
Sausage biscuit
Healthy Choice chicken and pasta frozen meal
Sausage gravy and biscuits
I woke up stupid early this morning. Ugh. After taking my shower, I exited the bathroom and heard the dishwasher running, which struck me as weird since it wasn’t making any noise when I went to bed last night. Low and behold, after some research
March 4:
Sausage and egg biscuit
Banana
Salad (lettuce, olives, cottage cheese, cheese, green peppers, cucumbers, croutons, bacon bits)
Lemon sandwich cookies
Oreo Polar Swirl from A&W
I did NOT want to get out of bed this morning. My alarm went off and I groaned so loud. Then I heard a roll of thunder and I groaned again because I love sleeping during storms. It’s like the best sleep ever. I begrudgingly got up and began my day.
Thankfully work went by rather quickly with minimal issues so I read some at my desk. After work I talked to a coworker about some things and was a little late picking up the youngest child. Once I got home, I doomscrolled a little and shared a couple of things with my oldest who proceeded to tell me that he was getting sick of politics. I got snippy with him and told him it was a privilege to be like that. I fumed internally for a bit after that, did some dishes (that he told me he was going to take care of and didn’t) then decided to try and fix the dishwasher. I couldn’t get the damn thing out from under the cabinet and didn’t want to risk damaging it more, so I got in the car and went to the local appliance repair shop. Hopefully it’ll be fixed on Thursday and won’t cost too much.
Anyway, after making the appointment, I saw the gas price at the gas station next to the appliance place and decided to fill up my tank at one across town that’s typically lower in price. I drove there, filled the tank, then stopped at A&W for a Polar Swirl. Once I left the parking lot I decided to take a short drive to the river and sit in the car while I found some peace. After finishing the ice cream treat, I headed home and explained to the oldest that I was frustrated with his lack of doing anything around the house that he previously agreed to doing. Expressing that to him opened a floodgate and I cried. After I finished, I went to talk to the little one who was supposed to be cleaning his room, but was instead finding every excuse to not clean. As I was explaining to him that his excuses were also frustrating, he decided to pick that moment to start walking downstairs to put up a movie. Since I was already in a rough state, I just told him to nevermind. He tried explaining that he was just going to put a movie up and I reiterated the nevermind then went to my room and cried some more. After getting the tears out, I went back to his room and talked to him about how it makes people feel when they are talking and the other person walks away. I left him to continue working on his room and I began to put up the clean dishes. I asked the oldest to finish the dishes that I started since the drain was empty and shared a few stories with him and his brother. I then read for a while before the little one burst into my room (because he doesn’t know how else to enter one, lol!) to ask if he could cut up some peppers for his lunch tomorrow. I told him I’d be out in a bit to start the process and he could help. I finished the chapter and we proceeded to cut up 4 decently sized peppers. He was one happy boy! He read to me before he headed to bed and I also read before bed. Between the emotional outbursts and the rain, I should sleep great tonight.
March 5:
Sausage breakfast pizza (2 slices)
Cheesy chicken and broccoli with rice - Marie Calendar meal
Strawberries
Hu Hot grill for dinner (lots of veggies!)
Yesterday I became obsessed with some eagles. Their names are Jackie and Shadow. They live in California and for the last two years they have not hatched any of the 4 eggs that Jackie laid. This year they laid 3 eggs and two of them have hatched! I showed my little one the eagles on Tuesday and he’s fully invested in this little egg hatching. When he got up this morning he told me that he had a dream he climbed up the tree to help incubate the egg. We will have to keep an eye on the little egg, because if it doesn’t hatch, I’m going to have one very upset little guy on my hands.
March 6:
Banana
Ham and cheese sandwich
Cheez its
Lemon sandwich cookies
Carrots
Cream horn pastry
Hamburger helper lasagna
Cheesy garlic bread
Green beans
Today I spent a decent chunk of the day preparing a portion of the Media Center for an ELA lesson. The sophomore level ELA class is going to be learning about WW2 and reading the book Night by Elie Wiesel. The Illinois Holocaust Museum provides a lesson plan where students build a timeline from 1933 through 1945 where it shows the persecution of people and the laws that enabled that persecution. I put up the bare bones of the timeline (a line and the years) then pulled SO MANY books, both fiction and non-fiction, to show that there are a lot of authors who tackle the problems that came about before, during, and after WW2. I really enjoyed creating the displays around the space where students can pick up the books, flip through them, and maybe even check some out. We have two teachers that teach the sophomore level ELA, but one is a little ahead of the other, so the display will likely be up for a while. Hopefully a variety of classes can come in and see the completed timeline. I also hope it’s successful and we can do it again next year.
The third eagle egg started to hatch. I shouted at my little one from my room as soon as I found out and his first response was, “My dream helped them!” He is so excited!
March 7:
Hamburger helper lasagna
Cheesy garlic bread
Green beans
The little eaglet is slowly working their way out of the egg. It is quite the process that can take 24-28 hours before it’s complete. I’ve learned a lot about eagles in the past few days. I hope that one day I have a random trivia question about them. LOL!
As for work, I had a lot of little things to do all day, which was no big deal. There are some days where the big things feel overwhelming, but checking off a lot of little things gives me a sense of accomplishment.
I failed to mention the update on the dishwasher. The repairman came to the house earlier in the week and after my oldest flipped the breaker to turn it back on, it was fine. I stopped in the repair establishment to pay for the repairmans time, but he basically refused to take payment until we were sure the dishwasher was fully working properly. Well, it seems to be doing just fine, but now the garbage disposal is leaking. So, I need to go back and see if he can look at it to determine what’s going on with it. Oy vey! Being a homeowner has its perks and downfalls.
March 8:
Eggplant parmesan
Side salad with balsamic vinaigrette
Roll
Cheez its
Party size kit kat
Party size peanut M&M
Party size plain M&M
Two Jack and Cokes
The little one and I went to a nearby town so he could attend a birthday party and I could do some light shopping for a gift basket that his class is throwing together for a carnival. We left the party and headed back home so I could drive to another town and play trivia with some friends. We had a wonderful time playing, even if we didn’t win. I did win a gift basket with gardening stuff in it, so that was exciting! The drive home was uneventful, which is always appreciated.
