January 5

It snowed, so that means I have to make cinnamon rolls. I’m not really feeling it right now, so we’ll see how this goes.

Nothing much to report except snow. So. much. snow.

January 6

We got a snow day today! Granted, it was announced last night, because of the massive amounts of snow. Many local businesses are also closed due to the snow and slick conditions. We had about ⅛ of an inch of ice before the snow actually hit, plus the bitter cold is making the ice melt not as effective. I’m glad so many businesses and schools made the call to keep as many people safe as possible, as well as giving those running the plows less traffic to deal with. I hope all of those who had to get out are safe.

January 7

Snow day, again! I swear, Mother Nature has it out for the Midwest this week. I’m beginning to wonder if we will have school at all. This batch of snow is supposed to be followed by some pretty bitter temperatures. I still haven’t made it to the gym since last week. There’s just something about the cold temperatures, having to change my shoes, and the likely overabundance of “new year, new me” individuals that makes me not really want to go right now. I’m sure I’ll get over it, especially once the snow melts. I should find some things to do at home, like yoga or calisthenics to work on my flexibility and hopefully help my muscles not hurt after workouts as much, especially since I’ve taken such a break from the gym.

January 8

Well, they called today a snow day last night, so I won’t need to use my bereavement time for my Uncle Tom’s funeral, though I am a little concerned about the drive. I hope the roads are good and the weather cooperates while we’re in Springfield. I also don’t have to worry about my kids freezing while walking home from the library.

We made it safely to Springfield and entered the church right as the ceremony was beginning so we had to wait a little bit before sitting down as my uncle had a catholic ceremony. It was a nice ceremony, that took place in the same church that my Aunt Pat (his wife) had her ceremony in a little less than 2 years ago. I can say that it drove home the point that I do not want a religious ceremony, though I’ll be gone so it won’t really matter for me. I realize that the funeral ceremony is more for those who are missing their loved one, and not for the one who has passed on. My hope is that my friends and family will have more of a celebration of their time with me and together than a depressing, religious filled ceremony that doesn’t honor both myself and the time I’ve been on this earth with my friends and family.

It spit snow while we were at the cemetery, which I found fitting since it snowed when we interred my own father in a veteran’s cemetery.

January 9

We made it to work/school safely this morning! Thankfully it was a late start so we made it around 9 am. The little one woke up early enough that he had some cereal at home before we left the house and I think he really liked being able to do that. Work went by smoothly. I cleaned up a lot of the Christmas decor and packed it away for next school year. I also managed to get a decent amount of steps in, though not as many as I need to get.

I worked on my puzzle a little tonight. It’s slowly getting done. Hopefully I’ll be able to finish it before the middle of the month. *fingers crossed*

January 10

Another snow day. I’m not mad about it, I just wish they would have called it sooner. The text came through at 5:30 this morning, ya know, 30 minutes before my alarm was to go off. Apparently the storm swung north a little and we got more snow than predicted. It almost feels like the snow storm was giving the middle finger to those who didn’t/couldn’t cancel the day prior.

I made cinnamon rolls today, as per our custom for snow days and boy was I mad when I pulled those bad boys out of the oven. Somehow part of them weren’t rolled tight enough so the cinnamon mixture leaked ALL OVER the pan. I’m so mad about it that I’m not making more for the next snow day (unless I go to the store and buy normal yeast to make the cinnamon rolls that take HOURS to make). The boys are enjoying the cinnamon rolls and say that the taste is great. I’m so mad at the rolls I won’t eat any more. I know, maturity at its best.

I did some work on my puzzle, but man this thing is giving me some issues. The picture is lovely, but I failed to recognize how many colors are EXACTLY THE SAME throughout the puzzle. Oy vey!

January 11

Played in the snow with my youngest for a bit today. We created a makeshift snowman. The snow is very wet and hard to move. So, great for snowballs. And yes, we threw snowballs at each other. LOL! He also helped me create some more space on the driveway so I can park the car further away from the edge of the retaining wall.

I read a lot today. I’m over half way done with my 600+ page book, which makes me happy. I really need to focus in on some of my other books so I can finish them before they’re due at the public library.

Week 2 of the 75 Soft journey

Veteran's Cemetery in Springfield, MO where we laid my Uncle Tom to rest

Snowman #1 created by my little one. It was built on the top of his brother's truck.

Snowman #2 that the little one and I attempted to create. It's not great, but he's got some memories of mom helping him in the snow.
