Week 1: A puzzling challenge

 Quarter 1: January 1 - March 31

  • Complete 2 puzzles per month (6 puzzles total)

  • Complete 30 Christmas cards for December

  • Sort out and package up 3 Lego sets

  • Continue on fitness and eating journey (lose 10 lbs)

January 1:

Being that we just got home from New Mexico, I spent most of today sleeping. While we were traveling and in New Mexico, I did not sleep the greatest, so being at home in my bed was what my body decided it needed upon returning. I was afraid that if I slept a lot today I wouldn’t be able to go to sleep tonight, but here it is, like 10 pm and I’m tired. So, off to bed I go.

January 2:

Today, I am working on an adorable puzzle my sister gave me for Christmas. It’s a mini-puzzle of a bookshelf with some cats on it. The pieces are smaller than a Cheez-It! They’re also kind of tricky, as some pieces fit in the wrong places. But, I finished it, so I have ⅙ of the puzzles done that I plan on doing this month!

I am also preparing to complete another round of 75 Soft, since I had so much success with it last time. I’ve added the additional task of hitting 10,000 steps daily. I feel like this goal will be easier when I’m at work and have my normal schedule. It’s always hard to hit it during icky weather and while being at home. If the weather is nice (we’re talking summer), hitting my steps isn’t so hard because I’ll go for a walk outside. If it’s below 70, I avoid going outside as much as possible. There is a small trampoline in the basement, so maybe I can use it to get some movement, even if I don’t hit my steps.

January 3:

I have the spreadsheet all set up for myself and a few friends who are wanting to complete the 75 Soft challenge! It’s a little daunting since we’re expecting some icky weather in the next few days, but I think if I can make it to the gym today and tomorrow, I’ll feel okay(ish) taking the 5th off for possible bad weather. Granted, the way I have the challenge set up gives participants days off during the week and some ‘sick’ days, but I try not to use them so close to the beginning, especially since it’s about to be cold and flu season at work. I’m extremely thankful that I’ve made it through the first half of the school year with minimal illness, but you never know when you’re immune system decides it needs a vacation. LOL!

A friend of ours is celebrating his 30th birthday and his wife is throwing him a surprise party this evening, so I’m going to roll up my sleeves and bake him a coconut pie (his favorite). I hope it goes over as well with him as it did with my god-daughter in New Mexico.

January 4:

The pie was a hit and I may have another business customer. The pie was about half gone when we left the party, so I’d say that it probably didn’t make it into today. LOL!

The 75 Soft challenge started yesterday and I managed to make it to the gym yesterday and today. We’re forecasted to get a pretty good winter storm that starts this evening, so I’m ready to hunker down and avoid all travel. My eating today has not been great. It seems like I’ve introduced sugar back into my daily eating habit and now that I’m trying to be very aware of what I’m eating, my body is really craving the sugar. I’ll have to work on that, which may prove a touch difficult with all of the sweets in the house after the holiday season. But, in the end, I know I’ll have to do it to be successful when it comes to this challenge and a life change.

The little one has been asking to watch Lord of the Rings for weeks now, so we’re gonna have a family movie night while I start on puzzle #2. It’s a lot bigger than the first one, so I’m sure it’ll take a bit to finish. But, what would the point of a puzzle be if not to take some time? I haven’t done any work on the other goals for this quarter yet, but I think that after I get puzzle #2 completed, I’ll be able to switch gears for a bit and work on another goal.
